I had never heard of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry before it was picked for my January Book Club, but now that I have read it, I will be sharing this with readers whenever I can.
Summary by Goodreads:
On the faded Island Books sign hanging over the porch of the Victorian cottage is the motto "No Man Is an Island; Every Book Is a World." A. J. Fikry, the irascible owner, is about to discover just what that truly means.
A. J. Fikry's life is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. There are times in life where I just need a "pick me up" - a book that will make me feel good about the world and my belief that good things do happen to good people. This book made me smile. The characters gave me hope that even when life is on a downward spiral, someone or something will come along to help us start believing again. The Storied Life was well written and kept me engaged. I loved the storyline, the characters, and how books were the center that brought everyone together.
